Specifications
Camera and telescope values are copied from manufacturer pages and manuals on the access date shown on each page. Makers revise products and pages, sometimes without changing the model name, and their own pages occasionally disagree; where we found a conflict, the table uses the product page and the conflict is described in the text. Values a manufacturer does not publish are marked "not published" rather than estimated. Values we compute (for example a sensor size from pixel count × pixel size) are marked as computed.
Catalogue sizes
Angular sizes of nebulae and galaxies depend on how deep the survey went and where the cataloguer drew the edge. Catalogues can differ by a factor of two or more for the same object. Framing results are only as good as the size used; each target page names its source and lists the other catalogue values we found.
Rules of thumb
Sampling bands, the 500 rule, the NPF rule and magnification limits are guidelines with stated assumptions, not physical limits. The pages explain those assumptions and cite where each rule comes from.
Solar observing
Never point a telescope, binoculars, camera lens or finder at the Sun unless a solar filter made for that purpose is fixed securely over the front of the optics. Nothing on FOVMath is guidance for solar observing; see NASA's eye safety guidance.
No affiliation
FOVMath is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by any manufacturer listed.
